The dental exam is the cornerstone of preventive dentistry because it allows our dentist to identify the current health of the teeth, gums, and other soft tissues. During the exam, our dentist uses specialized tools like lights, picks, and mirrors to inspect behind the teeth, the gums, and other hard to reach places. The purpose of the exam is to see if there is anything out of the ordinary like teeth suffering from decay, gum disease, or unidentified sores. These can often be indicative of more serious health conditions that need treatment.
